Monstera deliciosa houseplant

Choosing plants that suit typical Czech apartment conditions makes care easier. Flats often have moderate light, dry air in winter, and limited space. The species below are widely available and generally tolerate these conditions if basic care is given.

Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

Spider plants cope well with average room light and occasional drying out. They produce runners with plantlets that can be rooted in water or soil. Avoid direct midday sun and water when the top of the soil feels dry. Suitable for shelves or hanging pots.

Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

Pothos tolerates low to medium light and irregular watering. It grows as a trailing or climbing plant and can be kept in a pot or trained on a support. Let the soil dry a little between waterings. Variegated forms need a bit more light to keep their pattern.

Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

Snake plants are very drought-tolerant and can handle low light, though they grow better with some indirect light. Water sparingly, especially in winter. They suit bedrooms and offices where other plants might struggle.

Monstera (Monstera deliciosa)

Monstera prefers bright, indirect light and moderate humidity. In a dry room, leaves may stay smaller and develop fewer splits. Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry and avoid cold draughts.

ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

ZZ plants survive low light and infrequent watering. They store water in their rhizomes, so overwatering is a bigger risk than underwatering. Good for corners or rooms with little natural light.
